The Marigalante II

The galleon that sails both pirate ship tours today has already lived two lives: on Banderas Bay, then in the Caribbean, and now back in Puerto Vallarta.

Which ship will I sail on?

Both the Pirate Land day tour and the Pirates of the Bay night tour now sail on the Marigalante II, a black-sailed galleon designed in the spirit of the Santa María. Until recently it was known as the Jolly Roger.

From Mazatlán to the Caribbean and back

  • 2008: built in Mazatlán, on Mexico’s Pacific coast, from steel and wood.
  • 2009: began sailing in Puerto Vallarta as the Jolly Roger.
  • 2013: moved to Cancún, where it ran pirate shows in the Caribbean for more than a decade.
  • After the original Marigalante was lost: it sailed from Cancún back to Puerto Vallarta, crossing the Panama Canal on the way, and took the name Marigalante II to carry on its sister ship’s shows on Banderas Bay.

What happened to the original Marigalante?

The first Marigalante, a fixture of Puerto Vallarta’s bay for years, ended its working life in 2025 and now lies on the seabed of Banderas Bay. The operator tells its story on its legacy page.

On board

The ship has open decks for the show and the sail, and covered areas including the main dining room below deck, where dinner is served on the night tour. Everything else you need — times, food and what to bring — is in the day vs night comparison, the menu and what to bring.
